Recap: Teoscar Hernández Delivers In Dodgers’ Extra-Innings Win Vs. Yankees

There was a playoff atmosphere in the Bronx for one of the most-anticipated matchups of the season as the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2016.

The game proved to be a pitcher’s duel and lived up to the hype as both teams were scoreless through 10 innings, but in the end, the Dodgers came out of the game with a 2-1 win.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto stepped up to the occasion and was every bit of an ace that the Dodgers believe he is. The right-hander pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Yamamoto’s night came to an end with a double play, which followed a one-out walk after he already set a new career-high for his pitch count, showing Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ confidence in his ace. He finished the game throwing 106 pitches, surpassing his previous career-best of 101.

It was also the first time the Yankees have been held scoreless through seven innings since May 3. And for New York, the sting had to hurt a little more after they heavily pursued Yamamoto in the offseason and fell short in their hopes of signing him.

Unfortunately for Yamamoto, the Dodgers’ offense was also held scoreless for much of the game. They only had three hits through the first seven innings and went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, leaving seven runners on base.

Yankees’ starter Cody Poteet only pitched 4.2 innings, but got his job done by keeping the Dodgers off the board and giving up just two hits. Their bullpen also did its job, keeping the Dodgers scoreless.

The Yankees had a chance to score in the eighth with two runners on for Aaron Judge.

Blake Treinen entered the game and after a 10-pitch at-bat, he walked Judge to load the bases. Treinen then got Giancarlo Stanton to fly out to end the inning and keep the game scoreless.

Daniel Hudson pitched the ninth and Michael Grove had the 10th. Evan Phillips was unavailable after throwing more than 30 pitches on Friday, so it was Yohan Ramírez who entered for the save opportunity.

Ramírez allowed a single to Aaron Judge that put the Yankees on the board, but still recorded the save with a pair of strikeouts.

Dodgers face a pair of old friends against Yankees

Poteet left the game with Mookie Betts on first before Former Dodger Victor González entered the game and got Shohei Ohtani to ground out. González ended up pitching 0.2 innings while picking up a strikeout before he was replaced by Michael Tonkin.

Another former Dodgers reliever, Caleb Ferguson, made an appearance as well, striking out one in a perfect frame.
