Recap: Dodgers’ Losing Streak Extended To 5 Games As Reds Complete Sweep

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ losing streak reached a season-high five games as they were swept by the Cincinnati Reds with a 4-1 loss in the series finale on Sunday morning.

The game, which was originally moved up to 9:10 a.m. PT due to the threat of weather, was delayed the fifth inning due to rain, lightning and thunderstorms, but it resumed after the storm passed.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched all five innings, throwing exactly 100 pitches for the second consecutive start. Four of his innings were scoreless, but the third inning proved to be a challenge that ultimately lost them the game.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Jonathan Indian singled home two runs to give the Reds a lead. After he stole second, Nick Martini followed with a weak fly ball single that allowed two more runs to score.’

Yamamoto did have his strikeout stuff working in the game as finished his day throwing five innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

The Reds’ four-run inning proved to be all they needed to win the game as the Dodgers’ offense could not get anything going for them once again. The offense picked up just two hits with no walks and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

The Dodgers went just 4-for-27 with runners in scoring position during the series, with three of those hits coming in the series opener. Prior to the ninth inning, they had no hits in their last 22 at-bats with runners in scoring position, their longest stretch in three years.

Their only run came in the ninth inning on a double from Freddie Freeman after Ohtani singled and advanced to second on defensive indifference. It broke the Dodgers’ streak of hitless at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Dodgers travel to New York

With this series now complete, the Dodgers head to New York to face the Mets in a matchup of two struggling teams. The Mets entered Sunday with a five-game losing streak and have gone 2-8 in their last 10 with a 21-30 record overall this season.

Gavin Stone is set to face off against Trevor Megill in the first game of the series at Citi Field.
