One night after hitting four home runs, the Los Angeles Dodgers matched that total, but in a 10-2 win over the L.A. Angels in the penultimate Freeway Series game at Dodger Stadium.

Prior to the Dodgers blowing the game open with their display of power, they took the lead when Shohei Ohtani walked the bases loaded in the first inning and threw a wild pitch. After Ohtani put Will Smith on to start the second inning, Chris Taylor connected for a two-run home run.

Corey Seager extended the lead with an opposite-field homer, his eighth of the spring. “I think mentally, emotionally, physically, he’s healthy,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

“I think his approach at the plate, his mechanics are all dialed in and synced up. Yeah, there’s homers in there, but he’s a guy that takes good at-bats, he knows where the barrel is at and he hits it hard. If he gets the right trajectory, it’s a homer. If not, it’s a double. Just really pleased where he’s been this last year and a half.”

Will Smith blew the game open in the third inning with a three-run run on what wound up being the final pitch Ohtani threw. Cody Bellinger added to the Dodgers’ home run total with a solo shot in the fifth inning off Junior Guerra.

While the Dodgers were adding to their lead in the early innings, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman joined the broadcast for an in-game interview with Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser.

Friedman deftly wove in play-by-play, first for a line-drive out, and later when Taylor and Seager hit their home runs in the third inning.

Dodgers rotation set

Prior to first pitch on Monday, Roberts publicly named Dustin May the team’s fifth member of the starting rotation. May’s 2021 regular season debut will come in the series opener against the Oakland Athletics.
