White Sox Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Austin Barnes Returns To Lineup, L.A. Goes For Series Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to clinch a series win against the Chicago White Sox following a 5-1 victory in the opener on Tuesday.

The Dodgers have currently lost three straight series following a home matchup with the New York Yankees and a poor road trip that saw them go 2-4, so they are trying to build momentum and get back on track.

Clayton Kershaw is on the mound for the first time since he pitched seven shutout innings against the Cincinnati Reds last week. The southpaw has gone seven innings in each of his last two outings following a few poor starts near the end of May.

The future Hall of Famer has faced the White Sox four times in his career, going 2-1 with an ERA of 2.88 and 26 strikeouts. Overall, Kershaw has thrown 76.1 innings with a 2.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 93 strikeouts.

The White Sox counter with Mike Clevinger, who the Dodgers became familiar with as he spent the past one and a half seasons with the San Diego Padres.

Clevinger has not been all that effective this year, throwing 58 innings with a 4.19 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 48 strikeouts. However, he has not given up more than three runs in a start since May 6, when he allowed four over six innings.

The right-hander has gone 0-2 with an ERA of 9.69 and 11 strikeouts in 3 appearances against the Dodgers in his career. Clevinger has also faced the Dodgers twice in the postseason, giving up five runs in 3.2 innings.

Max Muncy remains out of the Dodgers lineup for the second straight day as he deals with a hamstring strain. Manager Dave Roberts said the hope was Muncy would return for the series finale.

Austin Barnes is back in the lineup for the first time since he was struck in his hand by a pitch last Thursday. The veteran backstop was dealing with swelling and pain for a few days, which limited his availability.

Roberts said Barnes is doing well and would catch two of the Dodgers’ six games this homestand.
