Dodgers Rumors: Lisalverto Bonilla Signs Minor-League Contract

Amongst all the angst and discussion that took place at Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers tended to roster and organizational depth matters as their splashy move(s) continued to evade them.

On Nov. 28, the Dodgers claimed pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla off of waivers from the Texas Rangers.

Still recovering from a Tommy John procedure done in April, Bonilla was immediately placed on the 60-day disabled list.

He was then one of two players non-tendered by the Dodgers prior to the Dec. 4 deadline, and became a free agent.

That did not mark the end of his tenure with the Dodgers however, as he agreed to a Minor League contract, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports:

The Dominican Republic native spent the 2014 season with Triple-A Round Rock, where he went 4-2 with a 4.10 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and averaged 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings over 39 outings for Round Rock.

In September, Bonilla was called up to the Rangers, where he made three starts and five total appearances. He was 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA, 4.63 FIP, 133 ERA+, and 1.21 WHIP in 20.2 innings pitched over that stretch.

Bonilla pitched this spring but missed the entirety of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
