Dodgers Wearing City Connect Uniform For Julio Urías Starts ‘Just A Coincidence’

The Los Angeles Dodgers once again wore their City Connect uniform on Saturday, which marked the third time the blue “Los Dodgers” jerseys made it onto the field this season.

Julio Urías started every game the Dodgers City Connect uniform has been worn this season.

“I think it’s just a coincidence,” Urías said through an interpreter. “But they asked me if I like to use it, and I like it.”

Urias has pitched well in the Dodgers’ alternate look, and his latest effort against the San Diego Padres was another step toward rebounding from a poor end to April.

He did allow a solo home run in each of the first two innings, but ultimately shined, pitching seven innings while giving up just the two runs in a 4-2 victory. Urías only allowed three hits while walking no one and adding four strikeouts.

“I think the first strike has been fundamental,” Urías said. “Then with two strikes, I was trying to make pitches, trying to make out pitches. Obviously, I made two mistakes and I paid for them, but getting that first-pitch strike and then trying to finish off hitters with two strikes.”

In Urias’ previous starts wearing the Dodgers City Connect uniform, the team went 1-1. His first start in them came on April 16 against the Chicago Cubs, when Urías gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched.

The next time the Dodgers wore their blue jersey was in a winning effort against the Philadelphia Phillies. Urías pitched seven innings and gave up just one run on a solo shot. He also struck out 10 hitters while only walking one.

The 26-year-old has been the pitcher of record in each start, making him 2-1 in the City Connect uniform this season. In total, he’s thrown 19.2 innings in them with a 2.34 ERA, giving up six runs (five earned) on 12 hits with three walks and 20 strikeouts.

Dodgers city connect uniform history

The Dodgers City Connect uniform debuted during the 2021 season as part of the inaugural class for the new looks designed by Nike. The uniform combo featured a completely new hat, jersey, pants, socks and jackets.

The first iteration of the uniform featured an all-blue look with a hat that had the cursive “Los Dodgers” script across it. For the 2022 season, the cap changed to have a black bill with the interlocking “LA” trademark logo on the front and the script text moved to the side.

The blue pants were not popular among fans or players, and during a Veteran’s Day event in the offseason, Max Muncy revealed the Dodgers were working on a plan to wear white pants with the City Connect uniform.

That change came to fruition when the Dodgers revealed their new look against the Cubs, switching to white pants with a blue stripe running down the side.
