The National League defeated the American League, 9-3, in the 16th annual Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game at Sloan Park. The Los Angeles Dodgers were represented by outfield prospect Andy Pages, who batted third for the NL and kicked off the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
The lead didn’t hold for long as the AL responded with two runs in the top of the second behind back-to-back doubles from Colt Keith and Jasson Dominguez. The AL extended their lead to 3-1 in the fifth with a Heston Kjerstad RBI single, but the NL would answer back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Nick Gonzales, Jackson Merrill and Jordan Walker each recorded RBI doubles before Matt Mervis capped off the frame with a two-run homer to give the NL a 7-3 lead.
Despite maintaining that lead for the rest of the game, the NL had their final at-bats in the bottom of the ninth. Zac Veen had an RBI double and Pages added a run-scoring single that widened the NL’s lead to 9-3.
Pages finished his day with one hit and two RBI in four at-bats. He was one of three players in the NL lineup with two RBI, along with Mervis and Walker.
Andy Pages participated in AFL Home Run Derby
Pages had a modest showing among the eight Minor Leaguers selected to participate in the inaugural AFL Home Run Derby.
Each player had 2 minutes and 30 seconds for their swings in Round 1, and 1 minute and 30 seconds for Round 2. The top two cumulative totals advanced to the championship round, which also was 1 minute and 30 seconds for each participant.
Pages slugged nine homers in the first round and an additional six during his next set of swings. However, it was not enough to advance to the final round.
That instead was a battle between Robert Perez Jr. and Kjerstad, which narrowly was won by the former. He edged Kjerstad with 11 home runs to 10, and an overall total of 32 to 31.
