Dodgers Prospect Andy Pages Results From Inaugural Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby

Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Andy Pages had a modest showing among the eight Minor Leaguers selected to participate in the inaugural Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby, which was held at Sloan Park on Saturday night.

Deyvison De Los Santos (Arizona Diamondbacks), Edouard Julien (Minnesota Twins), Heston Kjerstad (Baltimore Orioles), Matt Mervis (Chicago Cubs), Robert Perez Jr. (Seattle Mariners), Jhailyn Ortiz (Philadelphia Phillies) and Stephen Scott (Boston Red Sox) also were AFL Derby participants.

Each player had 2 minutes and 30 seconds for their swings in Round 1, and 1 minute and 30 seconds for Round 2. The top two cumulative totals advanced to the championship round, which also was 1 minute and 30 seconds for each participant. Players also had a 30-second timeout to use in each round.

Pages slugged nine homers in the first round and an additional six during his next set of swings. However, a total of 15 was not enough to advance to the final round.

That instead was a battle between Perez and Kjerstad, which narrowly was won by the Mariners’ prospect. He edged Kjerstad with 11 home runs to 10, and an overall total of 32 to 31.

Had Kjerstad managed to tie Perez in the final round, the AFL Derby Champion would have been decided by a swingoff.

The Derby was the start of a busy stretch for Pages, who next is due to participate in the Fall Stars Game on Sunday. That also is being held at Sloan Park, and will air on MLB Network in addition to streaming on MLB.com, beginning at 1 p.m.
