Dodgers News: Tony Gonsolin Focused On Pitching Well, Not Stats & All-Star Game

Tony Gonsolin turned in another quality start as the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games by defeating the Chicago Cubs, 5-3.

The right-hander allowed just two runs on four hits and collected three strikeouts over seven innings pitched. Gonsolin kept the Cubs off the board until Christopher Morel’s two-run home run with two outs in the fifth inning. He then proceeded to retire the next seven batters faced to finish his outing.

Gonsolin improved to 11-0 on the season, becoming the first Dodgers pitcher to start the season with such a record since Alex Wood in 2017.

“I feel like I fell behind a lot of counts, but overall, fastball was really good, really let my defense play,” Gonsolin said after the game. “We really have the best defense out there, so it’s awesome to watch these guys play.”

Gonsolin’s performance marked a second consecutive he allowed two or fewer runs while getting through at least seven innings. “I felt pretty good,” Gonsolin began.

“A few of those, I thought early maybe not so much, but I found the rhythm in the third-ish inning. But yeah, I felt good to give back-to-back long outings.”

With just over a week until the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium, Gonsolin currently leads MLB in wins (11), ERA (1.62), WHIP (0.80) and hits per nine innings (4.9).

“It just feels good to go out there and give our team a chance to win the ballgames,” Gonsolin said when asked if he is proud of what he has accomplished thus far. “I kept us in the game, watched our offense work. That’s about it.”

Gonsolin not focused on All-Star Game

Gonsolin has all but solidified his first career All-Star Game appearance, but he is only focused on helping the Dodgers win. “I was just trying to go out there and help our team win today and every time I get the ball,” Gonsolin said.
