Dodgers Injury Updates: Gavin Stone, Tommy Edman, Brock Stewart & More

The Los Angeles Dodgers once again find themselves dealing with a rash of pitching injuries this year, and they also continue to await the returns of Tommy Edman and Kiké Hernández.

Hernández is in the midst of completing a rehab assignment and has suggested he will come off the 60-day injured list on May 25. The earliest Hernández could be activated is May 24, when the Dodgers finish their nine-game road trip.

Meanwhile, Edwin Díaz is on the mend of having right elbow surgery to remove loose bodies and as of Tuesday morning was joined by Blake Snell in that type of recovery as well.

Dodgers GM shares updates

General manager Brandon Gomes spoke with reporters in San Diego this week to provide an array of updates on injured Dodgers, with the news a mixed bag.

Tommy Edman

Still recovering from offseason surgery on his right ankle, Edman was seen running the bases at Petco Park on Monday afternoon.

“We’ve got a few more things to check off as far as running progression, but each week we’re trending up and he’s able to do more, get closer to his game speeds and take on more volume,” Gomes noted. “Knock on wood, we’re in a good place right now. Once we get through his full running progression, then we can look to getting him out for some at-bats.”

Edman previously experienced lingering soreness when the Dodgers attempted to increase his running and level of activity, which caused them to ease up on the progression. If he continues to advance without that same trouble returning, Edman may soon begin a rehab assignment.

Tyler Glasnow

Tyler Glasnow started playing catch last week but is shut down from throwing for the time being.

“I still don’t think any concern longterm, but a little slower on the frontend than initially expected,” Gomes said.

Glasnow is scheduled to be re-evaluated in the middle of next week.

Brusdar Graterol

Elsewhere on the pitching front, Brusdar Graterol had his rehab assignment stopped due to back discomfort. The Dodgers are sorting through what’s going to be next for Graterol, which may entail season-ending injury.

“He’s worked really hard, so we’re trying to exhaust all measures here,” Gomes said.

Graterol has not pitched in a Major League game since Game 5 of the 2024 World Series. He had been working to return from having surgery in November 2024 to repair the labrum in his right shoulder.

Blake Snell

Snell had left elbow surgery on Tuesday to remove loose bodies, which amounted to taking out three bone spurs. Most encouraging for Snell and the Dodgers, his procedure entailed utilizing the NanoNeedle, which lends for a quicker recovery and return.

Brock Stewart

Brock Stewart pitched just once for the Dodgers this season before going back on the 15-day injured list, but due to a bone spur in his left foot.

“He’s throwing and feeling good as of now. I think once we get over a few more hurdles, the arm is not the problem,” Gomes said. “So it’s, let’s make sure the foot is feeling good and we can hopefully go from there.”

Gavin Stone

Gavin Stone was transferred to the 60-day injured list on April 1, roughly one month after suffering a setback following his first start of Spring Training.

“He’s back throwing. Little slower than expected and we’re trying to work through things to make sure once he gets going, we’re not taking a step back,” Gomes explained. “Making sure he can handle a higher volume at the velocities he’s accustomed to throwing.”

Gomes further clarified that Stone’s throwing at this time is still limited to playing catch from flat ground.
