Dodgers’ Initial Hope For Brock Stewart’s Recovery From Bone Spur

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back Blake Snell on Saturday but Brock Stewart became their second pitcher in as many days to land on the injured list.

Stewart’s 15-day IL stint is due to a left foot bone spur. He’s the Dodgers’ second high-leverage relief pitcher to deal with that type of injury this year as Edwin Díaz recently underwent surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow.

Stewart at this point is not expected to be operated on, but unlike with Glasnow, the Dodgers already anticipate his absence extending beyond the minimum 15 days.

“I think probably three weeks is fair,” answered manager Dave Roberts when asked for a timetable on Stewart. “I don’t think it will be just the two weeks and then he’s back. In a couple weeks we’ll know more, but I don’t think it will be after the two-week mark.”

More clarity could come Monday, when Stewart is expected to have his left foot further evaluated. He revealed to have been pitching through the bone spur and managed to do so without symptoms until Friday night. Stewart aggravated his left foot when running to cover first base for the third out of the eighth inning.

“It’s rest, recovery,” Roberts said of the current treatment plan. “It’s a bone spur, as I understand it, and it’s on his land foot. It has been there a little bit.”

To the point of not feeling the effects of the bone spur, Stewart successfully completed a lengthy rehab assignment without issue. It started on April 14 and spanned a total of eight appearances over a three-week stretch before the 34-year-old was activated. Included in that was pitching back-to-back days at the end of April.

Stewart threw a total of 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out 13 batters in his eight games.

Brock Stewart’s injuries

Stewart has only appeared in two games for the Dodgers so far in 2026. He began the season on the 15-day injured list while recovering from last year’s shoulder surgery.

A decision for surgery was made after a failed comeback attempt in time for the postseason. It was a disappointing development for the right-hander, who has battled multiple injuries throughout his career.

The shoulder trouble and now bone spur have limited him to just six appearances for the Dodgers since being acquired from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline in 2025.
