Dodgers Vs. Cardinals Game Preview: L.A. Goes For 4th Straight Series Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a chance to earn their fourth straight series win in the rubber match of their three-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Dodgers have fallen behind by five runs or more in each of their previous three games, but battled back to win two of them and fell just short in the lone loss.

Tyler Anderson makes his final start before the All-Star break, looking to cap off an incredible first half. The left-hander has been an invaluable piece to the Dodgers’ rotation after entering the year as their sixth starter in a bullpen role.

In 16 games (14 starts), Anderson is 9-1 with a 3.15 ERA, 3.36 FIP and 1.03 WHIP with 77 strikeouts across 91.1 innings.

Anderson is coming off a performance against the Chicago Cubs where he pitched seven innings and allowed three runs. Although he was effective, Anderson fell short of earning his 10th win as the Dodgers rallied late to earn the victory.

The 32-year-old has allowed at least three runs in three of his previous four starts and four of his previous six, but he has still remained a workhorse for the club.

The Cardinals counter with Dakota Hudson, who is having his worst season to date. In 90 innings, the right-hander has pitched to a 4.00 ERA and 4.37 FIP with just 50 strikeouts to go along with a 1.38 FIP.

However, he owns a career 3.37 ERA in 339.2 innings. Hudson was much more effective in his previous outing, spinning six shutout innings against the Philadelphia Phillies, but prior to that he allowed six runs in just four innings against the Atlanta Braves.

Prior to his six shutout innings, Hudson had five straight outings where he allowed at least two runs and gave up five runs or more in three of those.

As a team, the Dodgers are batting .257/.335/.445 with an MLB-best 121 wRC+ against right-handers, but the Cardinals have also been strong against southpaws, hitting .264/.333/.429 with a 117 wRC+.
