The Los Angeles Dodgers have been seeking depth and versatility at the bottom of their lineup, after an injury to Max Muncy helped reveal some issues outside of their superstars. It was made known that L.A. would search for help at the trade deadline, and they have reportedly made their first acquisition in the form of superutilityman Cavan Biggio.

Biggio, 29, has been a member of the Toronto Blue Jays for the last six seasons. He was once an American League Rookie of the Year candidate and was one of Toronto’s best players during the shortened 2020 season. But as the Blue Jays have improved — and his numbers have declined — he was slowly removed from the lineup.

This season, Biggio had a .614 OPS in 131 plate appearances, and had largely been relegated to a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner role over the last month. Now, he reportedly is being sent to the Dodgers, ESPN’s Jeff Passan announced on Wednesday morning:

Passan also announced that in exchange for Biggio, the Dodgers are reportedly sending the Blue Jays right-handed reliever Braydon Fisher.

Biggio has not produced at an elite level in 2024, which led to him being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week. However, last season he posted a respectable .710 OPS — 97 OPS+ — while spending at least 50 innings at four positions.

The rumored newest Dodger is largely a second baseman and right fielder, meaning he could split time with Gavin Lux, Miguel Vargas, Miguel Rojas and others, but has played every other position at least once. His least-utilized position is shortstop, where has one career inning, but the Dodgers are more than settled there.

Braydon Fisher heads from Dodgers to Blue Jays

Fisher is a 23-year-old reliever that heads back to the Blue Jays, reportedly, in the Biggio deal. He has split time between Triple-A Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa this season and has a combined 5.68 ERA in 19 innings. He was a fourth-round pick by the Dodgers in the 2018 MLB Draft.
