After splitting the first two games of the series, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees meet in a rubber match that will be nationally televised on ESPN as part of its Sunday Night Baseball schedule.
Bobby Miller takes the mound and looks to build on a successful start to his MLB career. Miller is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA, 2.20 FIP and 0.91 WHIP through his first two outings.
Miller allowed just one run on four hits and recorded four strikeouts over six innings of work in his most recent start against the Washington Nationals. “I was ready to go,” Miller said after his Dodger Stadium debut.
“I was fully locked in. It was a very aggressive lineup, so I knew I had to pound the zone.”
Miller’s quality start against the Nationals was the first by a Dodgers pitcher since Julio Urías on May 13.
Although facing the Yankees is a challenge for any pitcher and especially a rookie, manager Dave Roberts is confident Miller is ready for the task.
“I think there are certain ideal spots for guys. Maybe not as ideal for a guy making his third start, but it’s where we’re at and we feel confident that he can handle it,” Roberts said.
“I just look at it as an opportunity for him to pitch against a great ballclub, a great franchise, at home.”
The Yankees counter with Domingo Germán, who is coming off an uneven start against the Seattle Mariners. He earned his third win of the season, but gave up four runs and seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Germán enters at 3-3 with a 3.98 ERA, 4.41 FIP and 0.98 WHIP in 54.1 innings pitched across 10 starts this season. He yielded one run on five hits and picked up a win in his only career start against the Dodgers during the 2019 season.
Germán faces a Dodgers lineup that includes James Outman dropped down to the nine-spot. Outman remains mired in a skid since being named National League Rookie of the Month for April.
Aaron Judge is out of the Yankees lineup due to a sore right foot that is a result of his remarkable catch that saw him go through the Dodger Stadium bullpen gate in right field.
Former Dodgers prospect Willie Calhoun is starting in left field for his first appearance during the weekend series.
