The Los Angeles Dodgers are wearing their new Nike City Connect uniform for the first time on Saturday, when they host the Los Angeles Angels in the Freeway Series finale at Dodger Stadium.
The new Dodgers City Connect jersey shifts away from an all-blue look as it is cream based and features paint splatter on it to represent stars.
The trademark Nike Swoosh is featured on the right shoulder area in chili red, with “Los Angeles” across the chest in multi-blue font. The right sleeve includes blended logos of “LA” and a cursive “D” that was first introduced on Spring Training cap designs.
Above the size tag on the lower left side is “#ITFDB” as an ode to Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully’s popular catchphrase, “It’s time for Dodger baseball,” and a hashtag regularly used by the Dodgers on their social media accounts.
The front typeface on the new Dodgers Nike City Connect jersey is inspired by signage at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The jersey as a whole is a nod to Los Angeles’ longstanding connection to being a city of dreams.
The numbers on the back of the jerseys feature a cutout and gradient design. They are inspired by mid-century typefaces, which were popular during the Dodgers’ move to Los Angeles in 1958.
The uniform fabric represents a galaxy of stars, which are meant to represent the brilliance and diversity of Los Angeles. The stars are rendered in the color palette of seats at Dodger Stadium.
The City Connect cap has the two combined logos on the front and “Dodgers” on the side panel. The undervisor is inspired by the uniform’s galaxy fabric while celebrating the history and future of Dodger Stadium by being a new electric blue color.
Dodgers City Connect history
The 2024 Dodgers City Connect uniform is the team’s second iteration since Nike started implementing the program in 2021. The original uniform debuted that year and featured some tweaks over the last two seasons.
Among them were switching to white pants and minor changes to the cap players wear on the field.
JuJu Watkins throwing out first pitch
Also on Saturday, USC Trojans women’s basketball star JuJu Watkins will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and announce Scully’s famous line, “It’s time for Dodgers baseball.”
