The cover athlete has been announced for MLB The Show 24 ahead of the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays was revealed on Tuesday as the latest MLB player to don the cover of Major League Baseball’s flagship game. The winner of the 2023 Home Run Derby adds another notch to his belt, following in the footsteps of budding stars on previous editions.

At just 24 years old, Guerroro Jr. is a three-time All-Star and has already become one of baseball’s largest power threats. His father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., appeared on the cover of MLB 2006, which is a full circle moment for both the gaming franchise and the Guerrero family.

Hall of Fame player David Ortiz is a long time friend of the Guerrero family, and was a key piece to the cover reveal show in the MLB The Show 24, “Ride to Reveal.”

The game is now available for pre-order on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch with a Collector’s Edition to be revealed on February 8.

New features for the game and player ratings are also set to be announced leading up to the March 19 launch day.

Other star players who could’ve appeared on MLB The Show 24 cover

Aside from Guerrero Jr., stars like Ronald Acuña Jr., Jose Ramirez, Mookie Betts, or Julio Rodríguez are all deserving of consideration on the cover.

Guerrero Jr. amassed a 1.0 WAR in 2023, good for 396th among MLB players, right behind infielder Nicky Lopez. The decision to turn back the clock and sandwich the Blue Jays slugger is also an homage to his Hall of Fame father.

MLB the Show has gained in popularity as one of the most fan-friendly sports games in the current gaming landscape. However, the draw to young fans is more about flair and the attractiveness to the home run ball.

In his five-year career, Guerrero Jr. has hit 130 home runs, highlighted by his 48 homer season in 2021.
