Teoscar Hernández Exits Dodgers Game Against Marlins With Hamstring Tightness

Teoscar Hernández was in the Los Angeles Dodgers starting lineup in right field for the series opener against the Miami Marlins.

He took two at-bats with a double and single while driving in one run, but he exited the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chris Taylor took over on defense in center field with Andy Pages sliding over to right field.

The reason for Hernandez’s exit was not immediately clear, but in the fifth inning, the Dodgers announced he left the game with left hamstring tightness.

It was seemingly a more precautionary move as hamstring tightness is not a serious injury, but it limits mobility and could lead to a worse issue if not addressed.

He will likely undergo some treatment, which could include a hamstring massage, additional stretching, the use of a foam roller and the use of heat and cold therapy.

He could probably return to the lineup on Tuesday if the issue goes away with treatment, but the Dodgers may prefer to be cautious and give him an extra day or two off.

Overall this season, Hernández has been the club’s best hitter, batting .315 with a .933 on-base plus slugging, nine home runs, an MLB-leading 34 RBIs and four stolen bases.

Dave Roberts praised Teoscar Hernández

Since putting on the Dodger Blue, Hernández has become known for his clutch hitting, ability to drive in runs and success during big moments. That earned praise from his manager, who said Hernández has an ability that’s rare in players.

“I think the bottom line is he’s just not afraid to fail,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “When you’re in big spots and you’re not afraid to fail, that’s a superpower.

“And you know with that, he’s always got a good frame of mind, he’s aggressive, and the moment never gets too big for him.”
