Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal and San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller were the latest players named to the Team USA roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
They joined New York Mets teammates Clay Holmes and Nolan McLean, Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan and New York Yankees reliever David Bednar, who all were added to the USA baseball roster on Wednesday as well.
Skubal put together another dominant season that culminated with a second consecutive American League Cy Young Award. He went 13-6 with a 2.21 ERA, 2.45 FIP, 0.89 WHIP and 11.1 strikeouts per nine in 195.1 innings across 31 starts.
Miller posted a 2.63 ERA, 2.23 FIP, 0.91 WHIP and 15.2 strikeouts per nine with 22 saves in 60 appearances between the Athletics and Padres.
Holmes went 12-8 with a 3.53 ERA, 4.11 FIP and 1.30 WHIP in 165.2 innings pitched across 33 games (31 starts) this past season. It was his first year in the starting rotation after beginning his career as a relief pitcher.
McLean, a highly regarded Mets prospect, made his MLB debut in August and impressed to the tune of a 5-1 record, 2.06 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 1.04 WHIP and 10.7 strikeouts per nine across eight starts.
Ryan is coming off his first All-Star campaign that saw him post a 13-10 record with a 3.42 ERA, 3.74 FIP, 1.04 WHIP and 10.2 strikeouts per nine in 31 games (30 starts).
Skubal, Miller, Holmes, McLean and Ryan are part of a Team USA pitching staff that also includes Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes, Tampa Bay Rays teammates Garrett Cleavinger and Griffin Jax, Chicago Cubs All-Star Matthew Boyd and Boston Red Sox reliever Garrett Whitlock.
Team USA position player commits include Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge, Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Corbin Carroll, Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh.
Team USA will announce its full roster in the coming weeks. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is among those who could return to the team, but nothing is set in stone.
The United States will play in Pool B for the 2026 WBC, which is scheduled for March 5-17, 2026. Team USA is looking to bounce back after losing to Japan in the 2023 championship game.
