The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-2, in their Spring Training matchup on Monday. They now have an 11-8 record in Cactus League play with one game remaining.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was on the mound for his final tune-up start before Opening Day in Japan for the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs. The right-hander was sharp, working five innings while throwing 75 pitches.
Yamamoto allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking one. It was about as good of an outing as one could hope for in a final Spring Training start.
The Dodgers offense was led by Freddie Freeman, who had two hits and drove in two runs, while Tommy Edman was the spark plug with two hits and two runs scored.
Teoscar Hernández also drove in a run and had a pair of hits on the day. But perhaps the most encouraging sign was an RBI-triple from James Outman, who has been struggling this spring, as noted by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
Outman was named to the Dodgers’ travel roster for Japan, but he is still fighting for a spot on the active roster, and potentially a starting job as well.
Hyeseong Kim is in a similar category as Outman, and he also had a hit while scoring two runs. The Dodgers are debating whether to carry him on their travel roster or let him continue to work on his swing in Arizona.
Shohei Ohtani also continued to show he’s ready for the season as he doubled to start the game for the Dodgers’ offense before coming around to score.
