Shohei Ohtani is still in the early stages of his free agency, which also figures to end with him cashing in on the largest contract in MLB history.

Ohtani is the betting favorite for a second career American League MVP Award for his spectacular season with the Los Angeles Angels. Every team should make a case to court the all-world star, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are the rumored frontrunners to sign Ohtani.

But aside from his on-field dominance, Ohtani has made it a point to give back to his community through philanthropy as part of his efforts. He’s had several instances in which he’s donated supplies to hospital workers during the COIVD-19 pandemic and money to team staffers.

Most recently, Ohtani announced on his Instagram that he intends to donate around 60,000 baseball gloves to every elementary school in Japan.

Ohtani added that he’s ecstatic to give back to the kids, hoping to see them finding happiness through the game of baseball. The two-way superstar wanting to instill a love for the sport and thanking everyone involved is another testament to who he is on and off the field.

Whichever club Ohtani ends up with is getting not just a new face of the franchise, but a beacon for Major League Baseball and a voice to grow the game both domestically and internationally. Aside from his off the field work, Ohtani is also arguably the most talented player in baseball history.

Shohei Ohtani donated Home Run Derby earnings

In the midst of his MVP season in 2021, Ohtani took part in the Home Run Derby as well.

Ohtani did not win the event, losing to Juan Soto in the first round, but in yet another demonstration of his continued thoughtful nature, he donated his $150,000 earnings to Angels employees.

From clubhouse attendants, media relations staff, and others, Ohtani went above and beyond, giving back to Angels team employees.
