Schedule For 2024 Dodgers Alumni Weekend At Dodger Stadium

Los Angeles Dodgers Alumni Weekend at Dodger Stadium is scheduled for this Friday through Sunday, Aug. 9-11, 2024. The three-day period is going to celebrate many of the team’s key players since the club relocated from Brooklyn to the West Coast in 1958.

The festivities will be held before the Dodgers’ scheduled games against the Pittsburgh Pirates and see the returns of many popular players from past decades.

Ceremonies will feature Dusty Baker getting inducted into the Legends of Dodger Baseball, Walter O’Malley joining the Dodgers’ Ring of Honor and Matt Kemp being honored while signing a one-day contract before officially retiring.

Rick Dempsey, Eric Karros, Nomar Garciaparra, Shawn Green, Andre Ethier, Tommy John, Manny Mota, Wes Parker, Reggie Smith, Steve Yeager and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts are among those scheduled to appear as well.

Friday, Aug. 9

Baker will become the eighth player to get inducted into the Legends of Dodger Baseball, an elite group recognizing contributors to the franchise’s longtime success on the field and with their fans.

“It’s a tremendous honor,” Baker said in a statement. “And, it’s a bit of a surprise, especially for a kid from Riverside that used to listen to all the Dodger games and Vin Scully. All the Dodger greats that I used to copy and emulate, it’s a little strange for me to be up there honored with them.”

Baker played for the Dodgers in parts of eight seasons from 1976-83, winning two Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove Award. He was named to two National League All-Star teams, the first of which came during the Dodgers’ World Series championship season in 1981.

Saturday, Aug. 10

The Alumni Grand Reunion will feature the return of several Dodgers from each decade since their move to Los Angeles in 1958.

In addition, Hall of Fame owner Walter O’Malley will become the 15th member of the Dodgers’ Ring of Honor. Peter O’Malley, president of the Dodgers from 1970-1998, will represent the O’Malley family and accept the honor on behalf of his father.

“Walter O’Malley was a pioneer, whom we can thank for expanding baseball into a truly national game – and also, through his goodwill exchanges with Japan, an international one,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement.

“He loved baseball, and he loved the Dodgers, illustrated by the longtime brilliance of Dodger Stadium, a ballpark for the ages. We are thrilled to celebrate Walter’s legacy, and we are grateful that Peter, who built upon that foundation so impactfully, will join us for this celebration.”

Sunday, Aug. 11

Matt Kemp Day will cap off Dodgers Alumni Weekend. The three-time All-Star officially announced his retirement this past May and returned to the Dodgers in an advisory role.

In parts of 10 seasons with the team, Kemp hit .292/.348/.494 with 240 doubles, 203 home runs and 733 RBI, winning two Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Sluggers.

“The Dodgers were the ones who gave me the opportunity to put a big-league jersey on and live out my dream,” Kemp said in a statement. “So to be able to put that jersey back on and to be able to be around all the fellas, it’s kind of nostalgic, and it’s very exciting to be back in L.A.”
