The Los Angeles Dodgers continue their homestand with another National League West opponent in the Colorado Rockies.
The teams are one week removed from playing a series at Coors Field, during which the Dodgers lost two of three. They’re coming off a loss to the San Diego Padres but otherwise have won four of their last five games.
Julio Urías had the best performance of the three Dodgers starters in their last series with the Rockies, and now takes the mound for the Fourth of July matchup at Dodger Stadium. He allowed three runs but collected five strikeouts and pitched into the sixth inning.
Urías enters 6-6 with a 2.64 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 15 starts this season. He enjoyed a particularly successful month of June, going 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA over five outings during that span.
The Rockies counter with Kyle Freeland, who allowed three runs over six innings and picked up a win against the Dodgers on June 28. The southpaw 4-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 15 starts this season. Freeland held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in three of five outings in June, which was his best month of the year.
He now faces a Dodgers lineup that has Mookie Betts back from a fractured rib, and Trea Turner hitting second instead of Freddie Freeman. Manager Dave Roberts spoke with all three players about the new lineup order, and relayed each preferred where they are hitting.
Betts went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks in his first game off the IL. He started in right field due to Chris Taylor being unavailable because of a left foot contusion, but now is at second base the for series opener.
Taylor is playing left field, and Hanser Alberto makes his first start since receiving an injection to treat knee pain.
