The National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers (29-10) look to extend their winning streak to six games on Friday when they host the Colorado Rockies (18-19) in the first game of a three-game set at Chavez Ravine.
The Dodgers opened as heavy -255 favorites on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for the series opener coming off a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks, with ace Clayton Kershaw pitching six scoreless innings and becoming the second pitcher in team history to strike out 2,500 batters in a 5-1 win on Thursday.
Los Angeles on Friday will hand the ball to 22-year-old right-hander Dustin May (1-1, 2.83 ERA), who was expected to pitch against Arizona in the last series. However, May’s start was pushed back when Walker Buehler returned from the injured list where he resided briefly with a blister on his pitching hand.
Buehler is not expected to pitch in this series, but May has been one of the team’s best pitchers, leading the Dodgers with 35 innings over seven starts. He has not given up more the two runs in any of those outings, going five innings or more four times.
The Rockies have dropped three of their last four games after winning four of five, although they ended a three-game skid on Wednesday with a 9-6 win over the San Francisco Giants. Colorado will be sending Antonio Senzatela (3-1, 3.32 ERA) to the hill, and he has been outstanding in two of his last three starts.
Senzatela pitched seven scoreless innings last time out versus the San Diego Padres on Saturday, walking away with a no-decision despite that performance. He also got a no-decision two starts ago despite eight scoreless innings in an eventual 2-1 loss.
Los Angeles has dominated this series recently, winning four straight meetings and 10 of the last 11, according to the OddsShark MLB Database. The Dodgers figure to have a big edge in the pitching matchups Saturday and Sunday as well with Tony Gonsolin (0-0, 0.51 ERA) and Julio Urias (3-0, 3.27 ERA) on tap, respectively.
The Rockies will counter with German Marquez (2-5, 4.88 ERA) and an undecided pitcher for the series finale. Expect Los Angeles to be huge favorites in both at sports betting sites.
