San Francisco Giants Gaining ‘Momentum’ To Host 2028 MLB All-Star Game If Players Compete In L.A. Olympics

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game was held at Truist Park, which saw the National League hold on for a 7-6 win over the American League after the first-ever Home Run Derby-like swing-off.

With the 95th Midsummer Classic in the books, the focus now shifts to future MLB All-Star Games. The Philadelphia Phillies will host next year’s exhibition at Citizens Bank Park.

MLB has yet to officially announce plans beyond 2026, but reports suggest the San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles are due to host in the near future.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 2028 MLB All-Star Game will likely take place at Oracle Park if players are allowed to compete in the Los Angeles Olympic Games that summer:

Should Major League Baseball and the Players Association agree to allow players to compete in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, San Francisco might be a major beneficiary.

The momentum appears to be in favor of allowing Olympic participation, coinciding with a longer All-Star break — and in that case, one league source told the Chronicle, the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park would be the frontrunner for the All-Star Game.

The logic behind possibly holding the 2028 MLB All-Star Game in San Francisco is so that players would have an easier commute to or from Los Angeles for the Olympics.

LA28 announced this week that Olympic baseball games would be played from July 15-20, 2028.

Whether or not MLB stars can participate in the 2028 Summer Olympic Games will depend on the league being able to reach an agreement with the Players Association (MLBPA).

When asked about the possibility last year, MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said players were intrigued by the idea, but cautioned a lot needs to happen in order for that to become a reality.

If the green light is given, MLB may need to agree to something similar to the NHL, when the season takes a short pause to allow players to play in the Winter Olympics. Particularly if the league still holds its annual All-Star Game.

The Giants last hosted the MLB All-Star Game in 2007 when their home stadium was called AT&T Park.

Dodger Stadium host venue for 2028 Summer Olympic Games

With baseball being included as an official event in the 2028 Olympics, Dodger Stadium was chosen as one of the venues.

“America’s favorite pastime will capture the world’s attention when baseball makes its Olympic return in Dodger Stadium in Downtown Los Angeles, one of the world’s most iconic stadiums,” LA28 said in a statement earlier this year.

“It has hosted countless record-breaking games, including 11 World Series, the most recent being in 2024, and will continue to break records in 2028.”
