The Los Angeles Dodgers are faced with a Tyler Glasnow injury concern moving forward, but they earned an MLB-best 11th comeback win of the season and the series rubber match against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 9-2 victory.
Glasnow surrendered back-to-back solo home runs with two outs in the first inning but was picked up by the Dodgers responding with four runs in the bottom half.
However, Glasnow never got to reap the benefits of the offense providing him with a lead. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert went out to check on Glasnow after he finished warming up for the second inning, and a brief conversation ended with the 31-year-old coming out of the game.
The Dodgers announced Glasnow’s exit was due to right shoulder discomfort. Glasnow left his start last week because of lower leg cramps.
The Dodgers added onto their lead in the bottom of the second inning on Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly, and home runs from Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages broke the game open in the fifth.
The home run was Hernández’s 200th of his career, with 41 coming as a member of the Dodgers.
It also was another productive performance from Pages, who went 4-for-5. Pages extended his career-best streak of games with at least three hits to three. He additionally tied a career high with four hits and had his most RBI in a single game with four.
Dodgers pitching after Glasnow injury
Ben Casparius continued to pitch well and wasn’t thrown off in the slightest by being pressed into emergency duty when Glasnow came out of the game. Casparius struck out five batters over 3.2 scoreless innings.
Alex Vesia, Luis García and Yoendrys Gómez helped finish out the win. Gómez earned a three-inning save in his Dodgers debut after he was claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees and added onto the active roster on Saturday.
