The Los Angeles Dodgers have been in one of their classic skids this week, losing the first three of a four-game series against the Miami Marlins, all in heartbreaking fashion.

They looked to change that and avoid the sweep in the series finale on Thursday afternoon, and they did exactly that with a 6-1 victory to end the road trip with a 5-3 record.

The game didn’t get off to a good start for the Dodgers as Jazz Chisholm led off the bottom of the first with a no-doubt home run off Julio Urias.

Urias’ pitch count started to rise early as his command was off, which wasn’t ideal considering the team needed length from him after a bullpen game on Wednesday and another scheduled for Friday. Urias was able to settle in after the first though, regaining his command and pounding the strike zone.

It wasn’t until the fourth inning that the Dodgers offense finally got on the board. Matt Beaty reached on an error to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He later scored on a two-out single up the middle by Chris Taylor to tie the game at one.

The Dodgers then broke it open in the fifth with five more runs to take a 6-1 lead. Urias started things off with a single to help out his own cause and that was followed by three more singles by Mookie Betts, Max Muncy and Beaty.

Taylor had the big hit, a two-run double on a ball that bounced off the third-base bag. Zach McKinstry then capped off the rally by bringing home two runs of his own on a hard ground ball to second base that was booted by Chisholm.

When the Dodgers needed it most, Urias was able to get through seven strong innings, allowing just the one run while striking out nine. He threw 101 pitches, which tied his career-high.

Blake Treinen was the first reliever out of the bullpen to pitch the eighth and despite allowing a couple runners on, he escaped without any damage to keep the lead at 6-1.

Garrett Cleavinger then closed it out with a perfect ninth to help the Dodgers earn the victory.
