Dodgers Trade Rumors: Randy Arozarena Not Part Of Talks With Rays

After securing a commitment from Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers are now focused on adding a frontline starting pitcher to their rotation.

The team has been prominently linked to Tyler Glasnow, who is widely expected to be traded by the Tampa Bay Rays this offseason. The right-hander has one year of team control left and is due to earn $25 million next season.

There is also some thought that the Rays could trade Randy Arozarena, which has led to speculation of a potential mega-deal with the Dodgers.

However, Arozarena is not currently part of the Dodgers’ trade talks for Glasnow, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena, who has been the subject of trade rumors this winter, is not believed to be part of ongoing talks between the two clubs.

Arozarena is under team control via arbitration through the 2026 season. MLB Trade Rumors is projecting Arozarena to receive a $9 million salary next year.

Although the Rays are a small-market team that has often operated with finances in mind, Arozarena’s projected salary is not an astronomical figure, and thus a trade should not be considered a given.

Arozarena would seemingly be a nice fit on the Dodgers as the team plans to move Mookie Betts to second base on a permanent basis in 2024.

L.A. is reportedly in search of another right-handed bat and has been connected to the likes of Kiké Hernández, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Michael A. Taylor.

Dodgers history could help facilitate Tyler Glasnow trade

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman previously oversaw the Rays’ front office, and that history could help the teams complete a Glasnow trade.

The cost should be lower than the likes of Corbin Burnes and Dylan Cease due to Glasnow’s contract and history of injuries. However, he would still represent an upgrade for the Dodgers’ rotation as he is one of the most talented starters in baseball.
