The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their series opener, 10-4, against the Chicago Cubs, who were carried by a pair of old friends in a revenge game.

Walker Buehler made the start, and just as things seemed to be trending up for him, they regressed back before he could even settle into his outing.

Ian Happ opened the game with a single and Cody Bellinger blasted a two-run homer to put the Cubs up 2-0. Isaac Paredes followed with a dobule and came home to score on a single from Michael Busch, who the Dodgers traded in the offseason.

Busch seemed to still have some hard feelings as he also blasted a home run in the fourth inning, extending the Cubs’ lead to 3-0.

In the sixth, Bellinger and Paredes reached agaisnt Buehler, and that ended his day as Anthony Banda entered to replace him. Banda promptly allowed an RBI single to Busch, who finished his day with three runs driven in, tying his career-high that he previously set against the Dodgers.

With two outs in the inning, Miguel Amaya drove in another two runs to give the Cubs their sixth and seventh runs of the day.

Buehler finished his day going 5+ innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with one walk, four strikeouts and two home runs allowed.

That sixth inning came right after the Dodgers started to creep back into the game.

Chris Taylor and Shohei Ohtani each singled before Mookie Betts singled home a run. Freddie Freeman walked to load the bases, which ended the day for Kyle Hendricks.

Now facing Keegan Thompson, Max Muncy hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-2 game before the inning came to an end and making it a 4-2 game.

In the seventh, Ohtani singled and advanced to second on an error, and he scored when Betts slugged his 17th home run of the season to make it a 7-4 game.

Busch added a double in the eighth to make it a 4-for-4 day for him, and he ended up coming around to score the Cubs’ eighth run on a sac fly.

In the ninth, Bellinger drove in the Cubs’ ninth run with a single and Paredes hit a sac fly.

Former Dodgers reliever Tyson Miller also pitched a scoreless inning for the Cubs.

Shohei Ohtani closes in on 50-50 season in Dodgers loss

After Ohtani singled, he also went on to steal second base, giving him his 47th of the season. In addition, that was Ohtani’s 25th stolen base at Dodger Stadium this year, making him the first player in MLB history to have a 25-25 season either at home or on the road, specifically.

Ohtani now stands four home runs and three stolen bases away from his 50-50 campaign.
