Preview: Manny Machado Makes Debut As Dodgers Begin 10-Game Road Trip Against Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers kick off the unofficial start of the second half with a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. Friday’s opener marks the first game of a lengthy 10-game road trip against potential playoff opponents for Los Angeles.

Rich Hill takes the mound for his 12th start of the season — his first since July 10 after tossing a scoreless inning of relief against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim prior to the All-Star Break.

Hill logged seven innings pitched of four-run ball in his last start against the San Diego Padres, accumulating seven strikeouts against one walk. He was tabbed with a loss, as the Dodgers only provided one run of support in the contest.

The 38-year-old enters with a 2-4 record to go along with a 4.55 ERA, 4.92 FIP and 1.37 WHIP in 55.1 innings pitched this season, having tallied 60 strikeouts compared to 20 walks thus far.

The Brewers counter with Wade Miley, who has impressed in limited action this season. In three starts, he owns a 2.38 ERA, 3.94 FIP and 1.50 WHIP across 11.1 innings pitched.

In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Miley earned a tough-luck loss despite allowing only four hits and two earned runs across five innings pitched.

He did, however, allow a season-high five walks in the game — surpassing his season total of four over his first two starts combined.

Manny Machado makes his long-awaited Dodgers debut, batting second and playing his usual shortstop position. With the Baltimore Orioles this season, he hit .315/.387/.575 with 21 doubles, 24 home runs and 65 RBI in 413 trips to the plate.

Justin Turner remains sidelined with an adductor injury. Starting at third base in his place is Max Muncy, fresh off his first career appearance in the Home Run Derby on Monday.

The Dodgers will have the tough task of slowing down Brewers first baseman and NL All-Star Jesús Aguilar, who is having a breakout season. He leads the league with 24 home runs to go along with 70 RBI while slashing .298/.373/.621.
