Pirates Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Tyler Glasnow Starts With Chance For Series Sweep

After taking the first two games of the series, the Los Angeles Dodgers can complete a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with another win on Sunday.

Tyler Glasnow makes his 22nd start of the season and looks to build on a solid outing against the Philadelphia Phillies. He allowed three runs on five hits and collected nine strikeouts with no walks in six innings of work.

Glasnow relied on his slider more than usual in the start, which he felt was necessary to offset his fastball. “I think I’ve been getting a little predictable with heaters and sequencing and stuff,” Glasnow explained.

“So I’m just trying to mix that in a bit more. Last start and this start, I feel like I’ve used it a lot more.”

Glasnow is making his second career start against the organization that selected him in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft. In his first outing agains the Pirates back on June 4, Glasnow gave up three hits and one run across six innings.

Glasnow enters at 9-6 with a 3.54 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 0.95 WHIP and 11.6 strikeouts per nine in 127 innings pitched this season as he’s been an anchor for the Dodgers rotation.

The Pirates counter with Bailey Falter, who logged just two innings in his last start against the San Diego Padres because of a rain delay.

The left-hander is 5-7 with a 3.87 ERA, 4.44 FIP and 1.19 WHIP in 97.2 innings pitched over 19 starts this season.

Falter owns an 0-1 record, 6.43 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in two career appearances (one start) against the Dodgers. The Chino Hills, Calif., native allowed five runs in four innings against L.A. on June 6.

Prior to first pitch, Matt Kemp signed a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the organization. The first 40,000 ticketed fans in attendance for the series finale are receiving a Kemp bobblehead.

The festivities concluded Alumni Weekend at Dodger Stadium, which honored the likes of Dusty Baker and Walter O’Malley, among other key figures since the club relocated to Los Angeles in 1958.

Also before the game, the Dodgers recalled Landon Knack from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed River Ryan on the 15-day injured list.
