The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Landon Knack from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and placed River Ryan on the 15-day injured list after he began dealing with right forearm tightness.

Ryan suffered his injury during Saturday’s start, his fourth of the season for L.A. He revealed after the game right forearm discomfort was first felt during the third inning but he used a Theragun and initially remained in the game.

That changed in the fifth inning, when Ryan showed clear signs of discomfort after throwing his final two pitches. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert then went out to the mound and removed the right-hander after a brief conversation.

It included Ryan attempting to lobby his way into remaining in the game in effort to get the third out of the inning.

Ryan was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Sunday but expressed some hope — if not optimism — that he avoided a serious injury. He noted having good strength in his throwing arm during initial tests that were conducted at the stadium.

Landon Knack’s role

Although Ryan was part of the Dodgers rotation and Knack has started for the team as well, his latest stint is coming in a bullpen role.

It’s plausible Knack will only be on the Dodgers roster until Wednesday, when Walker Buehler is due to be activated off the 15-day IL.

Knack is 2-2 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in nine games (eight starts) for the Dodgers this season. He was optioned to Triple-A on July 24 as the corresponding move to Tyler Glasnow returning from the injured list.

Knack last pitched for the Oklahoma City Baseball Club this past Tuesday, when he allowed three runs (one earned) over 5. 2 innings.

Overall with Oklahoma City this season, Knack is 4-3 with a 3.97 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 12 games (11 starts).
