Jackie Robinson has been celebrated in multiple facets this season, and the next honor comes in the form of a special release of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1. The Jackie Robinson Day version of the signature model launches via the SNKRS draw system at 7 a.m. PT on Saturday, April 24.

The limited-edition version of Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature shoe features Robinson’s iconic No. 42 on the strap and footbed in place of No. 24. The shoe also has some of Robinson’s most memorable and inspiring quotes on the ankle strap: “There’s not an American in this country free until every one of us is free.”

The Air Griffey Max 1 is one of the brand’s more popular models and recently returned in its “Freshwater” colorway. It marked a second time the coveted version was retro as it previously was brought back in 2016.

The Air Griffey Max 1 originally was released by Nike as a multi-purpose cross-training shoe of the cleats he wore. That Robinson would be honored with Griffey’s signature shoe is hardly a surprise as he long has mentioned how the Brooklyn Dodgers icon was an inspiration for him.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and all of MLB recently celebrated Jackie Robinson Day, which included manager Dave Roberts leading a group to the statue in center field for a heartfelt period of reflection. Roberts, Mookie Betts and David Price were among those to donate their game checks for that day to The Players Alliance.

Recognition of Robinson also extended to the virtual baseball diamond as he was selected for a special edition of MLB The Show 21, which released for PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

There were three versions available for preorder: Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition ($99.99), Digital Deluxe Edition ($99.99) and Jackie Robinson Edition ($84.99). The Deluxe Edition came with a New Era cap, speciality digital cap and bat skin, and more in-game features.

PlayStation is donating $1 to the Jackie Robinson Foundation for every Collector’s Edition sold in the United States through 2021.
