Mookie Betts, David Price & Dave Roberts Donating Salary On Jackie Robinson Day; Dodgers World Series Ring Auction

As the Los Angeles Dodgers and all of Major League Baseball celebrate Jackie Robinson Day, manager Dave Roberts in addition to Mookie Betts and David Price are among those donating their gameday salary to support The Players Alliance.

Betts, Price, Jason Heyward and Jackie Bradley Jr. are among more than 200 players of all races and backgrounds who pledged to donate either their full or partial salary to The Players Alliance on Jackie Robinson Day.

Funds raised will directly benefit the Alliance’s 2021 Gear For Good equipment distribution program. They will also amplify the organization’s mentorship, scholarship and access programs geared towards leveling the playing field, and providing the tools needed to help make many Black children’s baseball dreams a reality.

Price has been heavily involved with The Players Alliance, which included coming together with Cody Bellinger and several others for distribution of food and baseball equipment during an offseason event.

In addition to various tributes MLB is carrying out, the Dodgers will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day by gathering at his statue located in the center field plaza of Dodger Stadium. “Pay our respects and homage to Jackie, do a little reflection on what he meant to us individually, as a club, as an industry and socially across the world,” manager Dave Roberts said.

“I’m looking forward to that.”

Dodgers World Series ring for auction

Despite Price opting out of the 2020 season due to concerns with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Dodgers awarded the left-hander a second career World Series ring. Price decided to auction the Dodgers World Series ring, also to benefit The Players Alliance.

The Players Alliance has donated more than $41 million to Black communities since its inception.

In addition to Bellinger and Price, Betts and Clayton Kershaw are other Dodgers who have been involved with the organization over the past year.
