The Milwaukee Brewers were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Wild Card Series and now appear to be going through a transition period after losing manager Craig Counsell to the Chicago Cubs.
While the Brewers roster as currently constructed is good enough to make the playoffs, they may look to take advantage of a seller’s market by trading some of their most talented players for future assets.
The Brewers have already moved Mark Canha to the Detroit Tigers and could continue unloading players this offseason. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletics, the team will consider trade offers for anyone on the roster, which would include Willy Adames and Corbin Burnes:
Those sources, briefed on the Brewers’ discussions but not authorized to discuss them publicly, say the team is open to moving virtually any player on its roster.
If the Brewers commit to a full-blown rebuild, the Dodgers will certainly be among the teams that come calling. L.A. is believed to have interest in Burnes and Adames, who both are under contract for one more year before potentially reaching free agency after the 2024 season.
Burnes is one of the best starters in all of baseball and would instantly improve a Dodgers rotation that only has four healthy pitchers at the moment.
Adames is coming off somewhat of a down year but could represent an upgrade at the shortstop position, even with Gavin Lux on track to return from right knee surgery.
Clayton McCullough was candidate to be new Brewers manager
With Counsell leaving for the Cubs, the Brewers reportedly considered Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough for their new manager, among other candidates.
Rather than make a new hire, the Brewers decided to promote bench coach Pat Murphy.
