Miguel Rojas Proud Of Reaching 1,000 Career Hits As ‘Defensive Specialist’

Miguel Rojas is either in the penultimate or final season of his career, seemingly dependent on whether or not the Los Angeles Dodgers three-peat this year, but he nevertheless is looking to make the most of 2026.

Rojas’ final season mentality made for an even more memorable visit to PNC Park earlier this season. It already is one of Rojas’ favorite stadiums to play in, and the Dodgers made that their family trip, so he was able to walk across the Roberto Clemente Bridge with his son.

During an interview with Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA, Rojas described that moment as being on his checklist. So too was reaching 1,000 career hits, which he achieved in a road game against the Colorado Rockies on April 20.

“I went into this year with the goal of getting to 1,000 hits. I thought that was going to be pretty cool because of the way I started my career. I remember the first thing they put on the scoreboard when I got called up, is they called me a defensive specialist,” Rojas recalled.

“For a defensive specialist to get 1,000 hits in the big leagues is pretty cool. I kind of set goals in my life and baseball career. I wanted to be an MLB shortstop, I wanted to win a Gold Glove, I wanted to play every single day, hopefully 162 games.”

Being a strong defensive presence has paid dividends throughout Rojas’ career, perhaps most prominently in Clayton Kershaw’s no-hitter and the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Miguel Rojas prioritizing World Series goal

Although Rojas relished his personal milestone and moment with his son, the focus remains on helping the Dodgers trying to win the 2026 World Series.

“But at this point, I feel like winning another championship and going out as a champion will be my favorite thing,” he said. “That’s not guaranteed. We have to go out there and perform every single day for that to happen. But at the end of the day, I’m pretty happy with my career as it is. I just want to finish helping this team win another championship.”

Rojas is certainly doing his part to help the Dodgers have a strong season heading into October. He’s excelled in a bench role and recently hit the second pinch-hit home run of his career.

Rojas’ first pinch-hit homer came on May 4, 2025, in a road game against the Atlanta Braves.
