Michael Kopech was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and added onto the expanded Los Angeles Dodgers roster for September. Kopech’s return brings the Dodgers’ 40-man roster full.
MLB roster rules permit teams to add one position player and one pitcher for the final month of the regular season. In addition to Kopech, the Dodgers activated Hyeseong Kim off the 10-day IL and added him to their expanded roster.
Between being unavailable at the start of the season due to a right shoulder impingement and then needing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, Kopech has made just eight appearances for the Dodgers this year.
He started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Aug. 14 and pitched in seven games for the Dodgers’ affiliate. The 29-year-old’s results left a lot to be desired as he gave up seven runs on six hits and walked nine against five strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
Kopech attributed his struggles to the different environment and competition level in the Minors while noting his success at the Major League level.
He has allowed just three hits with eight strikeouts against four walks in seven scoreless innings for the Dodgers this season.
Michael Kopech ‘eager’ for return
Although his 2025 season has not gone according to plan, Kopech is looking forward to returning to the Dodgers and making an impact.
“It feels like it’s been a long season. I’ve had two stints on the 60-day, which you never want to go in on the IL in general, but definitely don’t want to miss this many games,” he said. “I’ve pitched like eight innings this year for a team that I really like being a part of.
“I know we all have the same objective in mind, is to go win another championship, and to not get to be a part of what it’s looked like so far, at least not very much, is disappointing. So I’m definitely eager to get back. It has been a long road, but the end of the story isn’t written yet, so could be very rewarding.”
