Max Muncy Trying To Find Consistency With Swing Mechanics

Max Muncy slugged two home runs in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ series-opening win against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, giving him a second multi-homer game in the last seven games.

Muncy previously hit three home runs against the Texas Rangers on April 10 at Dodger Stadium, but between those two games, he went just 1-for-17 with a single.

The 35-year-old has had an inconsistent start to the season, and he attributes that to still searching for consistency with his swing mechanics, he said via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“The three-homer game, I did exactly what I was wanting to do with my mechanics and then the next couple games there was something that was causing it to be off,” Muncy said. “And that’s why I was saying we’re tinkering every day and the idea is there. And when I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, the results have been really good. It’s just trying to get that to be consistent on a daily basis.”

Overall this season, Muncy is hitting .254/.338/.556 with one double, six home runs and seven RBI. But prior to his three-homer game, he was batting .216/.326/.297, and heading into Friday night, he was hitting .220/.313/.424.

That means the majority of Muncy’s production has come in just two of the 18 games he’s played. In those two contests, he’s totaled seven hits with a double and five home runs. Without those two performances, Muncy’s gone 9-for-54 (.167) with only one home run in the remaining 16 games.

It’s a small sample size and still early in the season, but Muncy is hoping to find more production outside of those big games, as well. Given his track record and the ability he’s continued to show, it’s safe to bet on Muncy finding that consistency again.

Still, baseball is a game of hot and cold streaks, and the Dodgers are more than happy with the veteran third baseman carrying them to two of their 15 wins so far.

Max Muncy made adjustments to swing

Muncy is coming off a strong 2025 campaign, but he still felt it was necessary to make a few mechanical adjustments during the offseason.

“I feel really good in the box,” Muncy said after his three-homer game. “I got a lot of at-bats off lefties in spring. I think I had more at-bats off lefties than righties, actually.

“And I feel really comfortable up there. Some of the stuff we worked on is sticking really well right now. And just got to keep progressing into the season.”
