The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to the best record in baseball behind contributions throughout their lineup, which has included Max Muncy working to overcome a slow start.
Muncy is batting .220/.313/.424 with four home runs, four RBI and eight walks over 17 games. Muncy’s first homer in 2026 came well before the 29 games it took him last season.
“Well, I didn’t have to wait until May this year. So that’s a good start,” Muncy said of hitting his first home run this year. “No, I mean, I feel really good in the box.
“I got a lot of at-bats off lefties in spring. I think I had more at-bats off lefties than righties, actually. And I feel really comfortable up there. Some of the stuff we worked on is sticking really well right now. And just got to keep progressing into the season.”
Muncy is coming off a strong 2025 campaign with the Dodgers, but he still felt it was necessary to make a few mechanical adjustments to his swing during the offseason.
Despite putting together a productive Spring Training, Muncy has yet to find much consistency during the regular season. But with his power swing, it’s moved Muncy into sixth place on the all-time Dodgers home run list.
Max Muncy honored to be longest-tenured player
Muncy is now in his ninth season with the Dodgers and has become their longest-tenured player due to Clayton Kershaw retiring.
“That is weird for me. I’ve never thought of myself as that guy,” Muncy said earlier this year. “Like I was just talking about with Kersh setting the example, I’ve always just tried to do the same thing.
“Go out there every single day, get my work in and try to compete as much as I possibly can. I never try to take a day off. As far as what I can do, that’s it. Just continue his legacy in how he prepared for the game.”
Muncy has previously expressed how grateful he is to have spent so much time with the Dodgers, especially after the team helped revive his career following his release from the Oakland Athletics.
Muncy was set to become a free agent at the end of the 2026 campaign, but he will be sticking around for at least one more season with the Dodgers after signing a one-year contract extension worth $7 million. The Dodgers also hold a 2028 club option that could further extend Muncy’s time in L.A.
