Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants Partnered To Make MLB History

The Los Angeles Dodgers wore a special cap for Pride Night at Dodger Stadium on June 3, which was a first in franchise history, and did so again with the San Francisco Giants on Saturday to make MLB history.

It represented the first time two teams wore Pride caps in the same game to demonstrate their support of the LGBTQ+ community. The Giants additionally wore a Pride patch on their jersey.

Dodgers senior vice president of marketing, communications and broadcasting Erik Braverman and Giants vice president of external affairs Roscoe Mapps traded Pride caps prior to the game. The designs took the teams’ trademarked logos and incorporated Pride colors into them.

The Dodgers sold the special caps at the Dodger Stadium Top of the Park store and retail location in left field.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers are proud to stand with and recognize the LGBTQ+ community in Los Angeles and globally,” president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement earlier this month.

“The Dodgers have a history of breaking barriers and we’re proud to be a part of another chapter in MLB history as the Dodgers and Giants each wear their team’s pride caps on June 11. While our organizations have a long-storied rivalry on the field, we stand together when it comes to equality for all.”

Former Dodger and MLB’s first openly gay player, Glenn Burke, was celebrated on Pride Night at Dodger Stadium. The team additionally partnered with the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Varsity Gay League (V.G.L.), Greater Los Angeles Softball Association (GLASA), and Gym Sportsbar and Grill as part of the festivities.

Dodgers sponsors change logos

Also for Pride Night earlier this month, Dodgers sponsors with signage on the outfield fence at Dodger Stadium changed the colors of their respective logos.

The group of participants included Bank of America, State Farm, 76, Yaamava’ Resort and Casino at San Manuel, UCLA Health, Morton Salt, Anheuser Busch-Bud Light Seltzer, Blue Shield of California, Coca-Cola, Security Benefit, and ampm.
