The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) was named the winner of the 2021 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Sports Award, which annually recognizes professional sports teams, athletes, coaches and community-based organizations that use sports to catalyze and sustain changes to make communities healthier places to live, learn, work, and play.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation is absolutely thrilled to have received the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award for our critical work to remove barriers to health equity through sports,” LADF CEO Nichol Whiteman said.

“Through an approach that focuses on the comprehensive needs of young people, we aggressively tackle the most pressing challenges that Angelenos face by providing access and opportunity for those who need support the most.”

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award specifically honors the innovative and collaborative efforts of individuals, organizations and teams that are making their communities healthier through sport.

As the winner of the award, the LADF will receive $25,000 that will assist their building of a Culture of Health, and continue partnerships with Up2Us Sports, Positive Coaching Alliance, We Coach, and RISE to include more racial and gender equity training for Dodgers RBI participants.

“I am amazed by the work of this year’s winners and their commitment to using sport as a vehicle to achieve health equity,” Robert Wood Johnson Foundation vice president of communications Allyn Brooks-LaSure said.

“We know that removing barriers to safe play is essential to building a Culture of Health, and our winners provide wonderful examples of that.”

Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation partners with 76

The LADF and 76 Gas have come together to improve access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in the local area.

Fans can support the efforts by texting “FUEL” to 41623, visiting the foundation’s homebase location in the center field plaza at Dodger Stadium, or contributing online.

The first 1,000 fans to donate a minimum of $76 or will receive six collectible 76-Dodgers pins, which include a new limited-edition design featuring Smilin’ Jack in a Dodgers jersey. Some of the coveted Dodgers pins were previously available during a special promotion earlier this season.
