In recognition of the impact Justin Turner and his wife Kourtney made in the local community, the Los Angeles City Council in 2019 proclaimed January 22 as Justin Turner Day in Los Angeles. Monday marks the five-year anniversary of the recognition.
Turner was honored during a special ceremony at City Hall, which overlapped with the annual Los Angeles Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour week. Turner then went to Dodger Stadium to help the team host their first-ever military enlistment day.
The on-field event was held for 39 first-time enlistments, three re-enlistments, and their family members. Turner greeted each participant and offered words of support and encouragement in a heartfelt speech.
Since the recognition from the city, the Turners and Justin Turner Foundation have continued with a tireless commitment of giving back and providing for those in need. They work hand-in-hand with the Dream Center, partnering on several events, including recently bringing a Christmas Dreamland to life.
The Justin Turner Foundation then hosted its first Winter Wonderland for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles patients and their families. Also in 2019, CHLA added Kourtney, Justin and the Justin Turner Foundation to its prestigious Spotlight Wall in recognition of their regular visits and charitable efforts.
While January 22 is recognized throughout Los Angeles as Justin Turner Day, the All-Star third baseman has credited Kourtney’s support and work every step of the way.
“We just want to go out and try to serve the community and impact as many lives as we can. Stepping back and getting an opportunity to reflect on some of that stuff and hear the nice things that the council members were saying, was pretty cool,” Turner recently said.
“Even more special for my wife. She doesn’t get a lot of credit for a lot of the things that we do. It was cool for her to get recognized by all the council members. It’s something she definitely deserves, because she’s a big part of everything.”
Justin Turner Day celebration
Although Turner signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox, he and Kourtney hosted a day of celebrating and giving back at the Los Angeles Dream Center on January 22, 2023.
Festivities included a blood drive, bone marrow swabbing to be a match for patients in need, “Dodger Talk” remote broadcast by AM 570 host David Vassegh, and more.
The Turners continued their charitable efforts while in Boston, which included hosting a third annual Turner Trot 5K during the same weekend the Dodgers were in town to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
