White Sox GM Chris Getz: ‘Long List Of Teams’ Interested In Garrett Crochet Trade

While Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes and Alex Bregman top the list of free agents this offseason, other talented players could be made available by trade as well.

Among them are Garrett Crochet, who earned his first All-Star Game selection in 2024 while pitching for a historically bad Chicago White Sox team.

The left-hander went 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 12.9 strikeouts per nine in a career-high 146 innings pitched across 32 starts. There was a belief that the White Sox would trade Crochet at the July 30 deadline, but they ultimately held on to him.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz said a multitude of teams have continued to express interest in Crochet, but will only trade him if there’s a match, via Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:

“It’s a long list of teams that have expressed interest, which is not surprising, considering what he accomplished last year. We’ll continue to have those conversations. If there’s a match, there’s a match. But I do think it’s important to know that he’s one of the best starters in the game and I could very easily see him making an Opening Day start for us as well.”

The White Sox placed an astronomical asking price on Crochet in July, which is part of the reason why he wasn’t traded this summer.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies were said to have made attractive offers for Crochet, only to be turned down by the White Sox. Chicago reportedly sought top prospect Dalton Rushing in any potential deal, which gave the Dodgers some pause.

The Dodgers were also interested in Luis Robert Jr., who did not get traded either. However, they did work out a deal with the White Sox for Michael Kopech, who wound up becoming a key contributor in the bullpen.

If the White Sox make Crochet available again this offseason, it’s plausible that the Dodgers will have interest. Though, they will have more options to choose from in free agency if they want to make a splash, such as Max Fried and potentially Roki Sasaki.

Garrett Crochet contract situation

Crochet is under team control via salary arbitration through the 2026 season. The White Sox have not made progress with Crochet on a potential contract extension, fueling speculation that they will eventually trade him.
