After leaning on Clayton Kershaw for six innings in the first game, the Los Angeles Dodgers used a bullpen game to again shut out the San Francisco Giants and complete a sweep of the doubleheader with a 2-0 win.

Caleb Ferguson was the designated starter, though he essentially filled the role of an opener that has become popular across the sport. He worked only worked one inning, setting the Giants down in order, before handing the ball over to Victor Gonzalez.

The young lefty shouldered he bulk of the seven innings and like Ferguson, was perfect. Gonzalez struck out the side in the third inning en route to retiring all seven batters faced.

It wasn’t until the red-hot Brandon Belt hit a leadoff single against Brusdar Graterol in the bottom of the fifth inning that the Giants had their first baserunner.

Scott Alexander put the tying runs on base in the sixth with back-to-back four-pitch walks, but he was picked by Blake Treinen. Kenley Jansen worked around Belt’s bunt single and a two-out walk in the seventh inning to shut the door for his eighth save of the season.

There was little offense to speak of for L.A. as well, with Joc Pederson providing much of it. His solo home run off Kevin Gausman in the second inning broke up the scoreless tie and after doubling with two outs in the fourth, Pederson scored on Will Smith’s extra-base hit.

Lux makes 2020 debut

Gavin Lux was with the Dodgers as a member of the taxi squad for the six-game road trip, and he was their selection to be added to the active roster as their 29th player for the doubleheader. Lux went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his first game with the team this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he anticipated Lux likely being recalled at some point in the near future.
