Recap: Dodgers Sweep Rockies On Jackie Robinson Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers proudly celebrated Jackie Robinson Day by visiting his statue in center field at Dodger Stadium, then kept their momentum on the field in a 7-5 comeback to sweep the Colorado Rockies and extend their winning streak to a season-best six games.

Colorado jumped ahead in the first inning on Ryan McMahon’s solo home run in the first inning that hit off the top of the wall in right field and just out of Zach McKinstry’s reach. Garrett Hampson then took Julio Urias deep in the third for his first home run of the season.

Hitting homers has been nothing new to Justin Turner this year, and he put the Dodgers ahead with a three-run blast to center field in the bottom of the third inning. The homer was Turner’s fourth of the season, which is good for the team lead.

Urias kept that until coming undone in the sixth inning after a clear missed strike three. It occurred with one out and McMahon on second base after his double. With C.J. Cron’s at-bat still going, he lined the next pitch into center field for a game-tying RBI single.

Yonathan Diaz then blooped a two-out base hit into right field that McKinstry dropped in his attempt to rush a throw to home plate. The throw to the cutoff man had Diaz in a rundown, but Chris Taylor noticed Josh Fuentes beginning to break for home. He fired to the plate, only to airmail the throw.

The Dodgers turned the game around in the seventh inning, with walks by Matt Beaty and Turner setting up a go-ahead home run from Max Muncy. L.A. finished undefeated on their homestand and are 10-0 this season when hitting a homer.

David Price worked around back-to-back singles in the ninth inning to convert his first career save (regular season).

Dodgers rest Betts, Seager

When Mookie Betts returned Tuesday from lower back stiffness that kept him out of the lineup for a week, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated he would likely start back-to-back games then take a night for rest. That came to fruition and the Dodgers also gave Corey Seager a night off.

Though, both Betts and Seager entered in the final innings as defensive replacements. Gavin Lux also appeared, but only as a pinch-runner for A.J. Pollock in the bottom of the seventh.

Lux was seemingly limited to baserunning after being late scratch from the lineup due to right wrist soreness.

Betts, Price and Roberts each donated their gameday salary to benefit The Players Alliance.
