The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants played an all-time classic in Game 5 of the National League Division Series that turned when Cody Bellinger delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning and concluded with Max Scherzer earning his first career save.

Giants ace Logan Webb again was stellar against the Dodgers and he kept them scoreless until Corey Seager’s RBI double in the sixth inning. That came after yet another single from Mookie Betts, who set a postseason career high with four hits.

“He’s one of the best players in baseball for a reason. He’s a pretty incredible player and pretty incredible guy, honestly,” Webb said of Betts after Game 5.

“So he did a good job, he kind of knew the way I attacked him the first game and I tried to kind of do that the same way in this one and kind of just got to tip your cap. He’s a special player and there’s a reason why he’s so special.”

The Giants tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, and it remained that way until the ninth. Camilo Doval started a rally for the Dodgers by hitting Justin Turner with a pitch to put the go-ahead run on with one out.

Gavin Lux followed that with a base hit, and Bellinger then delivered the game-winning RBI single on a slider.

Dodgers pitching pans out

Julio Urias was bumped out of his start so Corey Knebel could serve as an opener, and he was followed by Brusdar Graterol. The right-handed relief pitchers labored a bit but combined for two scoreless innings before Urias entered the game.

His lone blemish was the towering home run Ruf hit, and Urias’ night came to an end after just four innings. Blake Treinen kept the game knotted up in the seventh and Kenley Jansen followed suit in the eighth.

Two days after his Game 3 start, Scherzer entered in the ninth inning to convert a first career save.
