On the eve of the Los Angeles Dodgers playing their home opener, Mookie Betts was welcomed by droves of fans as he arrived at a Raising Cane’s location in Alhambra, Calif., to work a shift at the popular chain.

Hundreds of fans chanted Betts’ name as he arrived and changed into a blue t-shirt before getting behind the counter to take orders. It was the first time Betts filled such a role, as he noted his “job” has always been playing baseball.

“I’m the same me,” Betts said. “I still want to interact, talk and joke with people. This is a good way for me to get that out.”

Raising Cane’s donates to Mookie Betts’ Foundation

In a sign of gratitude for Betts’ working a shift, Raising Cane’s donated $100,000 to his 5050 Foundation.

Betts’ charity has a mission of breaking the barriers that hold kids back, particularly for their medical and financial needs. The 5050 Foundation recently hosted a second annual bowling event to raise support for its ongoing
