Javier Baez Complimentary Of Dodgers, Calls Cubs Winning Series ‘Really Big’

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs have developed a rivalry over recent years, largely behind meeting in the last two National League Championship Series. The Cubs won the pennant in 2016 and the Dodgers returned the favor in 2017.

Every game the two teams play against each other seems to be close and competitive, and that was again the case this week when they met for a three-game series at Wrigley Field.

The Dodgers took the first game of the series, rallying in the ninth and taking a decided lead when Kyle Farmer delivered a two-run double with the Dodgers down to their final strike.

The Cubs then rebounded to win the next two games of the series as the Dodgers were not able to come up with any big hits with runners in scoring position.

It was a playoff atmosphere at Wrigley Field, and Cubs infielder Javier Baez was happy his team was able to come away with the series win because he knows how formidable of an opponent the Dodgers are, via Bradford Doolittle of ESPN:

“Really big,” the Cubs’ Javier Baez said of winning the series. “They are hot right now, and they have a great team. Great hitters and obviously great pitching.”

Despite a bit of slow starts to the season, both the Dodgers and Cubs have been playing their best baseball in recent weeks and look like they could be headed back to the postseason for a third straight meeting.

The two teams do not have to wait that long before meeting again, as they begin a four-game series at Dodger Stadium on Monday.

Regardless of how that series plays out, their next possible matchup after that wouldn’t be until October, when both teams could look very different.
