Dodgers Highlights: Kyle Farmer Plays Hero To Defeat Cubs In Game 1 Of Doubleheader
Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs split a doubleheader on Tuesday at Wrigley Field, with the Dodgers taking the first game, 4-3, and then the Cubs bouncing back to walk it off in Game 2, 2-1, in 10 innings.

It did not look as if the Dodgers were going to win either game, as they were down to their final strike in Game 1. Kyle Farmer was up to bat with two runners on, and he pulled a double down the left-field line to score two runners and put the Dodgers ahead for good.

Farmer has proven to have a flair for the dramatics in his short Major League career. His first career plate appearance was a walk-off double to beat the San Francisco Giants. He had another game-winning hit on the road against the Giants earlier this season.

Tuesday’s double was a big one considering how much the Dodgers struggled with runners in scoring position on the day. They went 2-for-14 in the first game, leaving 11 runners on base. They then went 2-for-15 while stranding 13 runners in Game 2.

The Dodgers only other really big hit on the day was their first swing of the day when Joc Pederson hit a leadoff home run off Tyler Chatwood. Pederson has eight home runs during the month of June, which is tied for the most in all of baseball.

The rivalry between the Dodgers and Cubs is a growing one considering they have met in each of the last two National League Championship Series. All of their games seem to be close, and that will likely be the case again on Wednesday when Ross Stripling squares off against Jon Lester.
