Freddie Freeman returned to Truist Park last weekend for the first time as a visiting player with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and predictably was overcome by emotions several times.

Freeman, who spent his first 12 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, teared up during a press conference before the series opener and again on the field when presented with his 2021 World Series ring.

The 32-year-old was emotional at other points as well, and after the Dodgers concluded the series with a comeback win in extra innings, he admitted to feeling a sense of relief with being able to move forward.

Freeman acknowledged he is still in the process of moving on from the Braves but that his focus lies with the Dodgers, via Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

“If you were in a relationship for 15 years, and it ended, you’re going to have feelings,” Freeman said. “And I’ve had feelings. I’ve been going through this process of grieving and now I’m in the healing process and the moving-on process. … There needs to be closure. It’s time. I’m a Dodger. I’m a Dodger for the next six years and that’s where my focus lies.”

Freeman’s stance is certainly understandable as he expressed his desire to end his career in Atlanta. However, the organization ultimately decided to move on from their franchise legend, which opened the door for the Dodgers to sign him to a six-year contract.

Although Freeman has openly discussed his affinity for the Braves organization, their fans and city of Atlanta as a whole, he additionally has expressed an appreciation for Dodgers fans as well.

Freeman first did so after making his Spring Training debut with the Dodgers, and again when fans chanted during the first home game of the season.

Freeman named National League Player of the Week for June 20-26

Freeman was named National League Player of the Week for June 20-26, joining Cody Bellinger (April 18-24) as members of the Dodgers to earn the honor this season.

Freeman hit safely in all six games during the past week, batting .440/.533/.840 with six runs scored, 11 total hits, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, 11 RBI and four walks. Included in that was a four-game streak that saw Freeman score at least one run, an extra-base hit and RBI.
