The Los Angeles Dodgers have taken to social media to raise awareness for a number of worthwhile causes over the years. This has been accomplished by several players participating in fun, viral challenges to help spread the word.

The latest involved Cody Bellinger, Will Smith and Chris Taylor taking part in the “Pie Face Challenge,” which benefits Sam’s Warriors. The organization raises money for parents to be with their children during hospitalizations through financial help with babysitting, compensation for unpaid leave from work and even gas cards.

Sam Sachs, a 12-year-old who was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia in October 2020, came up with the idea when he was hospitalized at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter in Virginia and saw other patients alone in their room due to their parents being away for work.

Bellinger, Smith and Taylor were each pied by their significant others. Afterwards, Bellinger nominated Austin Barnes and Joc Pederson, Smith challenged Walker Buehler, and Taylor nominated Justin Turner to participate in the challenge as well.

Sam’s Warriors to date has raised over $81,000 from 261 donors. A goal of $100,000 was set, and donations will be accepted through March 31.

Taylor: 4-year contract extension with Dodgers ‘meant a lot’

Taylor was among the flurry of free agents to sign a contract before the MLB lockout began, returning to the Dodgers on a new four-year deal.

The 31-year-old drew interest from a numerous teams and was projected to receive a contract in the five-year range. Taylor’s top priority, however, was staying in L.A., and he reportedly left salary on the table to make that a reality.
